PC or Laptop Failure

PC or Laptop doesn't turn on
Receive one or more error messages before windows attempts to load

In cases like the ones above, there is a good chance that although your PC or Laptop may be broken, the actual hard drive containing your data may be fine.

If the problem is not hard disk related, then we can, in the majority of cases, transfer all of your data to either an external hard drive, USB memory stick, or to DVD media.

For this service we would charge a fixed fee of £65, plus the cost of any DVD disks. Alternatively you can have your recovered data copied to an new external drive or USB memory stick, and this would also be billed for separately.

Hard Drive Failure

Example problems:

Computer reports that the drive is not formatted
No hard drive can be found when turning on the PC
Strange noises can be heard from within the PC or Laptop

If you are experiencing the symptoms outlined above there is a good chance you have experienced actual hard disk failure or corruption.

From here there two possible methods to recover data from the drive, depending on how badly damaged it is. These are:

Logical Data Recovery

This method uses various software related methods to recover data from your hard drive, but will usually only work if the drive is not physically damaged, in other words, if only data corruption has occurred.

For this service we would charge a fixed fee of £65, plus the cost of any DVD disks. Alternatively you can have your recovered data copied to an new external drive, and this would also be billed for separately.

Physical Data Recovery

If your hard drive has experience actual physical failure (won't power up or makes strange clicking noises) then the Logical Data Recovery option will not be available.

In cases like this you would have no option but to have the drive physically repaired, and unfortunately due to the advanced methods required costs a lot more.

● How likely am I to get my data back from a hard drive failure?

It obviously depends on a number of factors so it’s near on impossible to give a general answer, however data recovery methods continue to improve every day so there’s always a good chance you should be able to get some or all of your data back.

● How long does the process take?

If the problem is not a physical one (as in the drive still works, but the data is corrupted) then it usually takes between 2 to 5 days.

If the problem is a physical one then the whole process could take anywhere between 2 to 5 weeks.

● If you are unable to retrieve any data back from our hard drive will I still be charged?

Unfortunately because we would have to invest a significant amount of time in attempting to recover data we would still be forced to charge a small service fee. This however is only £35, which is considerably lower than our minimum fee of £65 should we recover any data.

● I only want to recover one file I accidently deleted. Is this possible?

Sometimes it is, but chances are if you have continued to use your PC or laptop then unfortunately it is likely the file would be unrecoverable. If however you have not used your computer for anything at all (that includes internet usage or simply starting your computer up a few times) then there may be a chance of retrieval.

To attempt to recover such a file we would still charge our fixed data recovery fee of £65, but should we not be able to recover the file a £35 fee would still be payable.

● I'm outside your service area but still wish to use your services. Can you make an exception for me?

We do go outside of our normal area from time to time, but because of fuel costs we are forced to charge a small call out fee for this. Just contact us with your location and we'll let you know how much extra it will be.

● Can you come out to see me in the evenings or at weekends?

We can! Vella Technology understands that people work all times of the day so we are pretty flexible with our working hours. We can come out to your house anytime between 9am to 9pm 7 days a week, but if even this is not convenient for you then simply ask! We go out of our way to please our customers and we'll usually be more than happy to visit at a time that's best for you.

It should be noted however that our normal office hours are 9am to 6pm Monday to Friday, which means we would usually only take phone calls during this time. We do sometimes work late or at weekends so you could always try your luck at other times. If we aren't around, there is an answer phone service which will we respond to as quickly as possible, or alternatively you could email us at email@vellatech.com.
